Never! Unless they can afford to pay for the bill of the cable or satellite.

I have a TV in my girls rooms for video's and games only.  The TV's are not connected to cable so I have complete control over what they watch.  My girls are 4 & 6.   I am not sure when I would let them have cable but by the time that day comes, i expect that technology will allow parents to put controls in place to filter inappropriate content seperately for each TV .   I hope that helps.

Not really. I need to time the time they are in front of the tube. That said, I would prefer to have one TV in the household. We don't even have on in our own bedroom. It's too distracting. Our kids have a clock radio and lots of books.

I had a TV in my room growing up and it made it that much easier for me to isolate myself from my family as a teen. I do not believe TV's belong in bedrooms at all.

We have one TV in our house, and basically the only time it's on is when I let the kids watch an occassional movie or after they go to bed and I O.D. on bad television shows.  I've never understood having a TV in a kid's room.  It's isolating.  I'm sure someone will make the argument that then they can go in there and watch it when their friends are over.  But when they have friends over, I think they should be playing, not sitting next to each other, watching TV.

I agree about the isolating part. And if my kids are watching something, I want to be hearing what it is and be there to answer questions and know what they're learning. Even if it's a commercial for Chuck E Cheese on PBS, I want to be able to say, "Hey, that's marketing. It doesn't make Chuck W Cheese good." TV in kids room
